How to choose the right Maldives resort, beach villas versus water villas, and how many nights you actually need.

The Maldives is not a single destination — it is hundreds of different island resorts, and the right decision starts with the type of island and how you reach it.
Villa type
- **Beach villa:** usually larger, better for couples who prefer privacy on land, and lower in price.
- **Water villa:** the iconic experience, with direct access into the lagoon.
Getting to the resort
Transfers are by speedboat, seaplane or domestic flight. Choosing a resort close to a domestic airport noticeably reduces both cost and travel time.
How many nights?
Four nights are enough for a complete experience; five to six if the journey is long or you want an extra slow day.

Travelling with children?
Family resorts are available on much the same islands, with larger rooms and child-friendly services.

Budget tips
- All-inclusive plans remove surprises from on-island restaurant costs.
- Book early for the peak season (December and January).
- Include transfers in the quote from the start so the total cost is final and clear.
